Staff Development Opportunity for ESOL Instructors

Reflective Teacherā€™s Forum: a Guided Support Group for ESOL Practitioners

Course Description
This course is an opportunity for ESOL teachers who wish to develop their skills by exploring and reflecting on their teaching practice. In-person meetings provide a structured forum for teachers to present issues and challenges they are experiencing in the classroom and receive support and guidance from both the moderator and their peers. Between in-person meetings, there will be opportunities for peer-to-peer online discussions and peer mentoring.
Format
Participants attend 12 hours of in-person classes, in addition to 40 hours of study and reflection online as part of a professional community of practice.Participant Expectations
This course is open to both new and experienced teachers. No prerequisites.

Instructor Bio
Judy TrupinĀ has been an ESOL adult educator for more than 25 years, and has worked as a teacher, curriculum developer, trainer, and administrator. She has taught all levels of ESOL from basic literacy through advanced. Ā Currently, Judy is the lead ESOL professional developer at the LAC

where she conducts workshops and curriculum development projects, and leads the LACā€™s TESLA and TEALL certificate programs.Ā Ā Judy is a nationally certified trainer for the BEST Plus assessment, holds New York State K-12 Ā ESOL certification and an M.S. in Teaching ESOL, andĀ is co-author of chapters in two publications: New Ways in Teaching Adults and New Ways in Teaching Content-Based Instruction.
